[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Iseul] The spy action film "Hunt," starring actors Lee Jung-jae and Jung Woo-sung, surpassed 3 million viewers over the weekend, claiming the top spot at the box office.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system on the 22nd, "Hunt" (directed by Lee Jung-jae) attracted 714,748 viewers over the three-day weekend (19th?21st), securing first place at the box office. Since its release on the 10th, the film has surpassed a cumulative audience of 3,042,160.
The spy action thriller "Hunt" tells the story of National Intelligence Service agents Park Pyung-ho and Kim Jung-do, who suspect each other while trying to uncover a spy hidden within their organization, facing the massive event known as "South Korea's first assassination operation." The film was also invited to the Midnight Screening at the 75th Cannes Film Festival this year.
In second place was "Hansan: Rising Dragon" (directed by Kim Han-min), depicting Admiral Yi Sun-sin's Battle of Hansan, which drew 343,513 viewers. Since its release on the 27th of last month, the film has surpassed its break-even point and has been watched by a total of 6,711,673 viewers.
Jordan Peele's new film "Nope," released on the 17th, attracted 157,970 viewers, ranking third, while "Top Gun: Maverick," seen by 96,695 viewers, took fourth place. The aviation disaster film "Emergency Declaration" drew 50,072 viewers, placing fifth.
Ranking sixth, "Minions 2" has accumulated 2,212,172 viewers, becoming the highest-grossing animated film released since the pandemic.
