The provincial Office of Education announced on the 9th that 120 elementary and secondary mathematics teachers are expected to participate, and experts will be invited to conduct two elementary courses and three secondary courses in a hands-on format.
An official from the Office of Education emphasized, “Mathematics is used in many aspects of the real world we live in,” adding, “Especially in the era of artificial intelligence, the power of mathematics is even more important for children who will live in the future society.”
According to the Office of Education, the secondary course titled ‘Utilizing AI Mathematics Textbooks Connected to the Era of Artificial Intelligence’ will explore the role of future mathematics education based on artificial intelligence and examine cases where mathematics is applied in AI.
The course is designed to allow participants to confirm the role of mathematics and enable children to directly experience the necessity of mathematics through hands-on practice such as classifying, predicting, and optimizing actual documents and image data.
The ‘Utilizing Mathematical Engineering Tools for the Future’ course will be operated separately for elementary and secondary levels.
Participants will use programs to draw complex graphs and create a ‘mathematics trip’ that allows them to enjoy mathematics in a virtual space.
In the ‘Practical Statistics Education Course Preparing for the Data Era,’ the program utilization methods for each school level will be reviewed, and statistical problem-solving using data will be practiced.
Participants will learn to analyze everyday data through statistics and probability by examining cases using educational statistics software such as ‘Tonggrami’ and Excel, which are used in the field.
An Tae-hwan, Director of the Creative Talent Division, said, “To enhance the mathematical literacy necessary for students living in the AI era, it is important to develop the capabilities of mathematics teachers,” adding, “We will provide more hands-on training for this purpose.”
