Chungnam Cheonsuman 'High Water Temperature Warning', Strengthened On-Site Response
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] A high water temperature warning has been issued for the Cheonsuman area in Chungnam.
On the 4th, Chungnam Province announced that the National Institute of Fisheries Science issued a high water temperature warning for Cheonsuman at 2 p.m. the previous day.
The warning was issued because the innermost area of Cheonsuman, the Chang-ri waters in Seosan City, recorded temperatures of 28 degrees Celsius or higher for more than three consecutive days.
In response to the high water temperature warning, the province plans to continue ongoing projects to prevent damage from high water temperatures, such as supplying liquid oxygen generators, installing shade nets, and providing immune boosters for fish.
Additionally, through an on-site response team, the province will conduct on-site guidance and damage investigations targeting cage aquaculture farms in four cities and counties: Seosan, Boryeong, Taean, and Hongseong, to prevent and minimize damage to cage aquaculture.
In cases where damage occurs at aquaculture households, the province plans to assess the damage situation and prepare recovery support measures to assist fishermen.
The province intends to make an all-out effort centered on the on-site response team by carrying out high water temperature damage prevention projects to minimize damage to cage aquaculture farms in response to the high water temperature warning.
Separately, the province is also encouraging enrollment in the “Aquaculture Seafood Disaster Insurance,” which subsidizes more than 80% of the insurance premium to reduce the burden on aquaculture fishermen.

Jang Min-gyu, Director of the Fisheries Resources Division of the province, said, “To minimize damage from high water temperatures, active measures by aquaculture households such as supplying liquid oxygen, installing shade nets, stopping feeding, and maintaining an appropriate number of cultured fish per unit area are most important. The province will support proper on-site measures through the on-site response team.”
