Dongmyeong University Department of Military Science Establishes Military Research Institute ... Establishing Itself as a Hub for Defense and Security Research
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Department of Military Science at Dongmyung University opened a Military Research Institute on August 1st and appointed retired Army Brigadier General Professor Yu Eun-jae as its inaugural director.
The Department of Military Science at Dongmyung University is actively promoting plans to link the Military Research Institute, Drone Education Research Center, and the master's program in Defense and Security Studies.
Na Seung-hak, head of the Department of Military Science, said, "To become an officer, students can join ROTC, become a bachelor's officer, or a military scholarship student at university, but they must pass high hurdles such as written exams, interviews, and physical fitness tests. We have invited expert professors to provide level-based guidance on difficult subjects like data interpretation and verbal logic, which are part of the written exam subjects, and we commission all graduates as officers in the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps."
Established in 2013, the Department of Military Science at Dongmyung University plans to recruit 35 students through the 2023 academic year early admission. The selection criteria reflect 50% on school records, 40% on interviews, and 10% on physical fitness tests.
The physical fitness test, which is difficult for examinees, will not include running but will only consist of two events: sit-ups and push-ups.
As a department specialization, English education is provided by native speakers, and education suited to the Fourth Industrial Revolution era is supported. To promote Do-ing (Challenge, Experience, Practice), security field trips and programs from Hallasan to Baekdu Mountain are also being implemented.
The department is the first among military science departments nationwide to support outstanding students in obtaining drone national certification free of charge.
Most universities related to drones rely on external drone education centers, requiring high tuition fees, but Dongmyung University's Drone Education Research Center can provide education internally, enabling free certification acquisition.
