View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] On Wednesday the 3rd, a heavy rain warning was issued for the Seoul metropolitan area, with very heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning expected until the morning.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, very heavy rain of 30 to 50mm per hour or more will fall in the Seoul metropolitan area until the morning, and heavy rain of 30mm per hour or more is forecast for the Jeonnam and Gyeongnam regions in the afternoon. Eastern Gyeonggi, Yeongseo region of Gangwon, Chungcheong region, and northern Gyeongbuk will have occasional rain until the afternoon, while Jeolla region, southern Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam region, and Jeju Island will have occasional rain from dawn until late afternoon.
In particular, the Seoul metropolitan area received over 100mm of rain overnight, and an additional 120mm or more is expected by the afternoon. Gangwon Yeongseo will receive 100mm, Seoul metropolitan area and northern Chungbuk, Jeonnam, and Gyeongnam regions 20 to 70mm, and Gangwon Yeongdong, Chungcheong, Jeonbuk, Gyeongbuk, and Jeju Island about 5 to 30mm of rain.
Currently, a heavy rain warning is in effect for Yeoju and Icheon in Gyeonggi Province, and a heavy rain advisory is in effect for Wonju in Gangwon Province, and Yangpyeong, Gwangju, Hwaseong, Yongin, Hanam, and Suwon in Gyeonggi Province. Areas under the heavy rain advisory are expected to receive an additional 20 to 70mm of rain.
The Korea Meteorological Administration advised, "When using riverside walking paths or underpasses, there is a risk of being trapped. Special caution is required for flooding in low-lying areas, river overflows, and rapid currents. Due to rain falling in valleys or upstream rivers, water levels downstream can suddenly rise, so refrain from camping and be careful with facility management and safety accidents caused by gusts and thunder and lightning."
As of 7 a.m. on the day, major rainfall amounts were Incheon 103.4mm, Sanbuk (Yeoju) 95.0mm, Baeksa (Icheon) 89.0mm, Gyeonggi (Suwon) 86.5mm, Dobong (Seoul) 79.5mm, Cheorin Yeoksam (Yongin) 79.5mm, Jiwol (Gwangju) 77.5mm, Goyang 70.5mm, and Yangpyeong 69.3mm.
Except for Seoul, Incheon, and northern Gyeonggi, most regions nationwide are under a heatwave warning, with high humidity causing the highest perceived temperature to rise above 33 degrees Celsius. Gyeongbuk region, some inland areas of Gyeongnam, and Jeju Island will see temperatures rise above 35 degrees Celsius.
As rain ceases in most areas, temperatures will rise further, and the heatwave warning is expected to expand. The highest daytime temperatures on the 3rd are forecast to be 32 degrees in Seoul, 33 degrees in Chuncheon, Daejeon, Ulsan, Busan, and Jeju, 34 degrees in Cheongju and Changwon, and 35 degrees in Daegu. Fine dust levels are expected to be 'Good' across all regions due to smooth atmospheric dispersion and the effects of precipitation.
