View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Wando Soan Middle School announced on the 2nd that student Lee Ji-hee (15) won the bronze prize at the ‘20th National Middle and High School Students’ Contest for Correct Understanding of Our History’.
The ‘Contest for Correct Understanding of Our History’ is a nationwide competition held once a year since 2003, aimed at enhancing middle and high school students’ understanding of Korean history and historical thinking skills. It is hosted by the National Institute of Korean History and supported by the Ministry of Education.
This year, a total of about 180 works were submitted nationwide, and about 80 works advanced to the finals.
The preliminary judging involved reviewing research reports based on literature, field investigation reports, and video materials, while the finals consisted of historical essays covering overall Korean history.
The work by Lee Ji-hee, who won the bronze prize, was a literature research report titled ‘A Study on the Anti-Japanese Movement of Soan-do, Where the Taegeukgi Flutters 365 Days a Year,’ focusing on the unique characteristics of Soan-do’s anti-Japanese movement and efforts to inherit the movement.
Lee Ji-hee expressed her feelings, saying, “I am very happy to take pride in contributing to the correct understanding of Soan-do’s anti-Japanese movement.”

Guidance teacher Lee Kwang-il said, “The dedication to guiding students in a small, remote school with difficult educational conditions was stronger than in large cities,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to correctly inform our history and aim to improve understanding of Korean history and historical thinking skills.”
