[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Volvo Car Korea announced on the 2nd that it held the graduation ceremony for the 4th class of the ‘Apprentice Training Program,’ a specialized technician training course, at its own training center.

Now in its 4th iteration, the ‘Apprentice Program’ is a local program unique to Volvo Car Korea that offers a systematic education and hands-on field experience exclusively for students majoring in automotive engineering at leading domestic universities. Since 2018, Volvo Car Korea has been operating this program to nurture professional technician talent and contribute to the development of the domestic automotive industry, alongside providing Swedish premium customer service in line with continuous brand growth.

The 12 trainees of the 4th class, selected in June from automotive engineering graduates and soon-to-be graduates from 7 universities nationwide, completed Volvo’s formal technician education program, which includes basic vehicle education such as Volvo’s brand heritage and safety technology centered on ‘safety’ as a core value, powertrain, chassis, and electrical/electronic systems; advanced diagnostic equipment; electrification and IntelliSafe systems for safety technology; and customer service training.

These 12 trainees were awarded the ‘Volvo Certified Level 1’ certification according to their technical competency level. From August, they will undergo six months of field training and internships at 11 service centers across 4 official dealers nationwide, and starting March next year, all will be hired as full-time employees to work as official technicians.

At the event, Kyungran Song, Executive Vice President of Customer Service at Volvo Car Korea, said, “Volvo Car plans to continuously expand its service capacity and scope to support the brand’s external growth and global electrification strategy,” adding, “We expect talented domestic professionals who will create a sustainable future to take the lead in achieving the title of ‘No.1 in Service Satisfaction.’”
