July sales alone nearly reached 12 billion KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] CJ CheilJedang's 'Ready-to-Eat Naengmyeon' has achieved record-high sales.
CJ CheilJedang announced on the 1st that sales during the peak naengmyeon season from May to July reached approximately 30 billion KRW. This represents a 15% increase compared to the same period last year, with sales in July alone approaching 12 billion KRW.
This success is attributed to the growing number of cost-conscious consumers and the continued heatwave, leading more people to enjoy naengmyeon conveniently at home rather than dining out. When converted to a per-serving price, CJ CheilJedang's naengmyeon costs around 2,000 KRW, roughly one-quarter the price of specialty restaurants.
The company also explained that differentiated taste and quality played a key role. The steady seller 'Dongchimi Mul Naengmyeon' features an authentic Pyongan-do style naengmyeon recipe, characterized by chewy noodles and a deep, refreshing broth made with Jeju radish. Additionally, with proprietary noodle-making technology, unlike typical naengmyeon, the noodles automatically loosen in boiling water within 50 seconds without needing to be separated by hand. The newly launched 'Cheongyang Chili Spicy Mul Naengmyeon' in June this year has gained positive responses as a delicious specialty naengmyeon catering to the spicy flavor trend.
Given the current trend, sales growth is expected to continue in August, the peak naengmyeon season. CJ CheilJedang has held the number one position in the ready-to-eat naengmyeon market for eight consecutive years from 2014 to last year, according to Nielsen IQ Korea.
