Netmarble's Closer 'Seven Knights' Debuts... Fierce Competition Among New Releases in the Second Half
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Netmarble's popular IP (intellectual property) 'Seven Knights' has returned. 'Seven Knights Revolution,' Netmarble's savior following an operating loss in the first quarter, has shown a smooth start, drawing attention to whether it will continue its early success.
According to mobile big data platform Mobile Index on the 31st, 'Seven Knights Revolution' ranked first in App Store sales. On Google Play, it ranked 8th in sales, starting off steadily within the top 10.
'Seven Knights Revolution' took the top spot in Apple App Store popularity just 5 hours after pre-download began on the 27th. It then reached number one in Google Play popularity within 7 hours, raising expectations for its success.
'Seven Knights Revolution' is a key anticipated title for Netmarble, which recorded an operating loss in the first quarter. Since it was developed using their own IP, higher profits can be expected compared to other games. Netmarble's operating profit margin remains in the single digits, unlike other game companies whose margins approach 20-30%, due to having relatively few proprietary IPs.
Netmarble plans to boost the game's success by releasing a PC version of 'Seven Knights Revolution' as well. The strategy is to increase accessible platforms to secure as many users as possible.
Meanwhile, with the upcoming summer vacation season in August, game companies are rushing to release major new titles to gain momentum in the second half of the year.
Com2uS will launch 'Summoners War: Chronicle' on August 16. This game is a new title utilizing the IP of 'Summoners War: Sky Arena,' which has shown strong performance in the global market.
Nexon will release 'HIT 2' domestically on the 25th of the same month. Nexon announced the official release date of 'HIT 2,' the first title from its development subsidiary Nexon Games. HIT 2 is planned to be officially launched in the domestic market on the 25th of next month. The original HIT, released in 2015, was a work through which Nexon, which had mainly focused on PC games, discovered potential in mobile gaming. HIT 2 will support cross-platform play between mobile and PC.
