Police Deny Extension of Rally in Front of Former President Moon's Yangsan Residence
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] The police denied the application to extend the rally held by a far-right group that continued to hold gatherings near former President Moon Jae-in's private residence in Yangsan, Gyeongnam.
On the 23rd, the Yangsan Police Station in Gyeongnam announced that it had issued a prohibition notice against the 'Jayuyonda' rally planned to be held on the road in front of the private residence in Pyeongsan Village, Jisan-ri, Habuk-myeon, Yangsan City.
Former President Moon returned to Pyeongsan Village after his retirement on May 10. Jayuyonda filed a long-term rally report starting June 1 for one month and began holding rallies opposing former President Moon. After the rally period ended on the 23rd, they reported to the police that they would hold the rally for another month, but the police did not accept the extension.
According to the Assembly and Demonstration Act, rallies can be prohibited if they cause damage in residential areas or threaten the peace of private life.
The police explained that the group was issued a prohibition notice because there were many cases of disturbances during the rally, such as using abusive language and getting into disputes with local residents and visitors to the private residence. In fact, Jayuyonda also invaded privacy by filming neighbors of former President Moon and broadcasting it on the internet.
If the prohibition notice is violated and the rally is forcibly held, the police can order the dispersal. Failure to comply will result in punishment for violating related laws.
