View original imageThe government emphasized on the 22nd that "it will respond according to law and principles to illegal acts that occurred during the unlawful occupation" in relation to the conclusion of the strike by the subcontractor labor union of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) through labor-management negotiations.
Lee Jeong-sik, Minister of Employment and Labor, Han Dong-hoon, Minister of Justice, and Lee Sang-min, Minister of the Interior and Safety, announced this through a statement titled 'Government Position on the Labor-Management Agreement of DSME In-house Partner Companies' at the Government Complex Gwacheon in the afternoon.
Minister Lee, who read the statement as a representative, explained, "The government has maintained the position that problems should be resolved through dialogue and compromise based on law and principles. This agreement is an important precedent in resolving labor disputes according to law and principles."
He continued, "The government will respond according to law and principles to illegal acts that occurred during this unlawful occupation," adding, "We hope that a culture of autonomous and mutually beneficial labor-management relations based on law and principles will be established going forward."
Minister Lee also stated, "Now, the labor and management of DSME and its in-house partner companies are expected to promptly work together to normalize management," and "The government will also do its best to help South Korea leap forward again as a shipbuilding powerhouse."
Earlier, Kwon Su-o, chairman of the DSME In-house Partner Companies Council, and Hong Ji-wook, vice chairman of the Metal Workers' Union, each representing labor and management, held a briefing in the afternoon to announce the negotiation results and the settlement.

The DSME subcontractor labor and management agreed through negotiations to a 4.5% wage increase, payment of 500,000 KRW for Lunar New Year and Chuseok holiday bonuses, and 400,000 KRW for summer vacation bonuses.
