"Stop Tying Others' Hands"... China Criticizes U.S. Containment Policy
In its "Bell" commentary, People's Daily calls for end to US containment of China
Emphasizes need for mutual development
Warns of "risk of conflict" if Taiwan issue is mishandled
China has once again raised the concept of a "constructive strategic stability relationship," which it recently proposed during the U.S.-China summit, and has repeatedly called on the United States to end its containment policy against China and to refrain from interfering in the Taiwan issue.
The People's Daily, the official newspaper of the Communist Party of China, stated on the 16th in its "Bell Sound" commentary, which explains China's position on international affairs, that "constructive strategic stability should be a positive form of stability, even in the context of competition." The commentary also noted, "Competition among major powers is unavoidable, but it should not become a zero-sum game or a 'boxing match' with winners and losers," adding, "It should be more like a 'track and field race' where both sides spur each other on and develop together."

It further remarked, "China is pleased to see a confident, open, and prosperous United States," and added, "We also hope that the United States will view China's development rationally." The commentary emphasized that "'the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation' and 'Make America Great Again (MAGA)' can fully coexist."

On the Taiwan issue, the warning tone was raised once again. The commentary repeated remarks made by President Xi Jinping during his summit with U.S. President Donald Trump the previous day, stating, "If the Taiwan issue is mishandled, it could lead to conflict or confrontation between the two countries, putting the entire U.S.-China relationship in jeopardy." It went on to say, "The 'One China' principle and the three major U.S.-China joint communiques must be upheld," and called for the Taiwan issue to be handled prudently in order to maintain a stable foundation for bilateral relations.
