BBQ Grows as an Overseas Dining Brand... Operating 2,250 Stores
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Genesis BBQ is actively expanding its stores around the world, growing into a global dining brand.
Yoon Hong-geun, Chairman of Genesis BBQ Group, recently stated, "Our rival is the American McDonald's. We aim to open 50,000 stores worldwide by 2025 to become the number one franchise in the world," expressing his ambition to accelerate overseas market expansion. BBQ currently operates 2,250 stores in 58 countries worldwide. Among them, about 1,800 stores are domestic, with expansions centered in the United States, Japan, and Taiwan, and extending to China, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
In particular, in Taiwan, they are creating a K-food craze by offering Korean dishes such as chicken, tteokbokki, japchae, and jeon together. Stores have opened in major cities such as Taoyuan, Taichung, and Tainan, and following the opening of the Beitou branch, a hot spring tourist spot, in April this year, the 19th store was opened in Kaohsiung in May. They plan to open 7 additional stores within the year, expanding their network throughout Taiwan, and are also targeting store expansion in the Chinese market.

In Japan, since 2016, they have opened 21 stores based on a master franchise strategy in partnership with the local dining brand Watami. Since July 2020, interest in BBQ Chicken has increased due to successful product placements (PPL) in Korean Wave dramas such as Crash Landing on You and Goblin.
