View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] LG Display received an international certification for recycling over 120,000 tons of waste, accounting for more than 98% of the total waste generated last year at its domestic sites in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, and Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk Province.
LG Display announced on the 20th that its domestic sites received the 'Zero Waste to Landfill' certification. This certification is an international evaluation index for corporate resource circulation efforts. UL Solutions, a global safety science company, verifies the corporate waste recycling rate and awards the certification if it exceeds 90%.
LG Display’s Paju and Gumi sites recycled 122,820 tons, which is 98.6% of the total 124,644 tons of waste generated last year, without disposal. This meets the 90% resource circulation utilization rate standard. It also created an economic effect of about 20 billion KRW annually through reduced waste disposal costs and additional revenue from selling waste resources.
The company explained that this certification achievement is significant as it internationally recognizes the company-wide resource circulation efforts, including the application of eco-friendly waste technologies, improvement of waste resource processing efficiency and processes, and the implementation of employee-participatory eco-friendly campaigns.
A representative example is increasing the crushing efficiency of waste glass, which was previously entirely landfilled, enabling all waste glass to be recycled in other industrial sectors. Along with expanding the application of environmentally friendly waste treatment technologies with partners, LG Display is steadily promoting process improvements that fundamentally reduce waste generation. The company installed 'Smart Collection Boxes' throughout the workplace, where employees can separate and dispose of PET bottles to accumulate points and receive benefits. They also run the 'Ecodian Campaign,' encouraging the use of tumblers and eco-bags.
