[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the second model of its dedicated electric vehicle brand Ioniq, the ‘Ioniq 6’. Hyundai plans to accelerate the electrification transition and become a global leader in the dedicated electric vehicle sector through the Ioniq 6.
On the 14th, Hyundai released the ‘Ioniq 6 Digital World Premiere’ video. The launch video, showcasing the key design and features of the Ioniq 6, was broadcast worldwide via Hyundai Motor’s YouTube channel and campaign page. Simultaneously, the actual Ioniq 6 was unveiled for the first time in the world at the ‘2022 Busan International Motor Show’ held at BEXCO in Haeundae-gu, Busan.

The Ioniq 6 is an eco-friendly dedicated electric vehicle embodying the Ioniq lineup’s goal of ‘advancing the electrification experience,’ focusing on providing customers with a new mobility experience. This aligns with Hyundai’s brand vision of ‘Progress toward Humanity,’ which emphasizes contributing to a better daily life for customers.
Hyundai defined the new design type of the Ioniq 6, which features a smooth, streamlined design minimizing wind resistance while considering spaciousness, as the ‘Electrified Streamliner.’ The Ioniq 6 impresses with a long overall length of 4,855 mm and a low height of 1,495 mm, giving a strong impression of gliding through the air, while its wide width of 1,880 mm and a long wheelbase of 2,950 mm?comparable to large vehicles?maximize interior space.
The Ioniq 6 is offered in two models: Long Range equipped with a 77.4 kWh battery and Standard equipped with a 53.0 kWh battery. The Ioniq 6 incorporates world-class aerodynamic design and efficiency, enabling a single-charge driving range of 524 km (18-inch wheels, Long Range rear-wheel drive model).
Notably, the Ioniq 6’s electric consumption efficiency (energy efficiency) is 6.2 km/kWh, the highest among existing dedicated electric vehicles worldwide. When choosing the all-wheel-drive option, it delivers up to 239 kW output and 605 Nm torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.
The Ioniq 6 features a 400V/800V multi-fast charging system, supporting both 800V ultra-fast charging infrastructure and standard 400V chargers. With 800V ultra-fast charging, it can charge from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes. It also applies the Plug & Charge (PnC) function, which automatically authenticates and processes payment immediately upon connecting the electric vehicle charging cable, allowing charging to start right away.

The price starts in the 55 million KRW range and goes up to the 65 million KRW range, designed to maximize customers’ eligibility for subsidies. The Ioniq 6 is scheduled to begin pre-orders at the end of this month and will be launched domestically and in some European regions in September this year. Full-scale sales in North America are expected in the first half of next year.
