Seoul City to Foster Specialized Talent in 'Special Effects and Animation' to Boost K-Content Competitiveness
Virtual Space Creators... 4 Months, 640 Hours of Intensive Training to Develop Animation and Special Effects Experts
Company-Youth Internship... Internship Matching at 18 Content Specialist Companies, On-Site Work Starting from September to December
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 13th that it will support training computer graphics (CG) experts who determine the competitiveness of content such as games, animation, and special effects by providing virtual space creator training, operating internships to gain practical experience at various content companies, and job matching with companies in need of professionals.
First, Seoul is recruiting 25 participants by the 1st of next month for the "Virtual Space Creator Training Program 2nd Cohort" to train content production experts using game engines in CG-related fields such as animation and special effects. Virtual space creators are a field recognized as one of the top 10 promising future jobs.
Now in its second year, this program has expanded the number of trainees to 50 annually at the industry's request. Any young person aged 19 to 39 who wishes to work in the content field can participate, even without basic skills in graphics or 3D. This is currently the most in-demand field in the industry, and core subjects enabling participants to work as promising virtual space creators will be taught over 640 hours across four months.
Additionally, 32 participants will be recruited to gain internships at content-specialized companies such as Locus and FunnyFlux. Anyone residing in Seoul or graduating (or prospective graduates) from specialized high schools located in Seoul, and under 39 years old, can apply. After matching applicants with companies, the internship will run for four months from September to December.
Support is also provided from employment assistance to job matching with companies. To eliminate mismatches between industry demand and job seekers, Seoul operates an "Employment Support Program" where company representatives, vice presidents, and department heads directly participate as mentors. From the 1st of next month to September 6th, a total of 14 sessions will be held with content companies interested in hiring, conducting 1-to-many mentoring sessions by job category.
Furthermore, lectures and consulting on portfolio preparation necessary for employment in content companies, as well as employment consulting on basic materials such as resumes and self-introduction letters, are also provided.
