Jeju Police Agency Launches Traffic Safety Campaign to Strengthen Pedestrian Protection Duties
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Jeju Police Agency conducted a traffic safety campaign in child protection zones following the enforcement of the Road Traffic Act, which strengthens the obligation to protect pedestrians at crosswalks, starting from the 12th.
According to Jeju Police Agency, the campaign was carried out mainly in child protection zones around elementary schools in the province, such as Sinjeju Elementary School, during the school commute hours from 7:30 AM to 8:50 AM.
The campaign involved various related organizations and cooperative group members, including Jeju Province, Jeju Provincial Office of Education, Autonomous Police Unit, Korea Transportation Safety Authority, Model Drivers Association, and Green Mothers' Association.
Chief Lee Sang-ryul said, “Please ensure the safety of children by inspecting school routes within child protection zones and reinforcing traffic safety facilities in accordance with the new law’s intent, such as installing stop signs in front of crosswalks, raised crosswalks, and ‘speed measurement signs’ that inform drivers of their speed.”
He added, “We will do our best to form a cooperative partnership with local residents, reflect various opinions from the community, and establish ‘resident-centered community policing.’”
