On the same day, Dongwon Systems held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new factory to produce cylindrical battery cans for secondary batteries at the Dongwon Systems Asan Plant in Asan City, Chungnam Province. The ceremony was attended by Park In-gu, Vice Chairman of Dongwon Group, Jo Jeom-geun, CEO of Dongwon Systems Secondary Battery Division, and other executives and employees.
Dongwon Systems will invest approximately 58.5 billion KRW on a 5,062-pyeong (approximately 16,720 square meters) site within the Asan Plant to introduce equipment capable of producing cylindrical battery cans of the 21700 specification (21mm diameter, 70mm height) and the 4680 specification (46mm diameter, 80mm height). Upon completion, Dongwon Systems will have an annual production capacity of over 500 million cylindrical battery cans.
Recently, Dongwon Systems developed a differentiated technology-applied 4680 specification cylindrical battery can and was selected as a supplier to secondary battery manufacturers. The 4680 specification cylindrical can is a product led by Tesla, the leading company in electric vehicles. Dongwon Systems is making every effort to cultivate this as a core product. In January of this year, it became the first in the industry to develop technology to enhance the corrosion resistance of the 21700 specification cylindrical battery can and succeeded in producing finished products. It obtained product approval from domestic secondary battery manufacturers and has been supplying since March.
Dongwon Systems plans to continuously expand the scale of its battery can manufacturing business for secondary batteries by adding production lines within this year.
