Jo Eung-cheon: "Park Ji-hyun may not be suitable as Supreme Council member, but it's too soon for party leader... There should be a sense of being endorsed"
"I Jaemyung, Despite Pressure Saying It's Not the Time to Step Forward, Majority Opinion Favors Proceeding with Candidacy"
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] On the 30th, Cho Eung-cheon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, evaluated the speculation that former emergency committee chair Park Ji-hyun would run for party leader in the August party convention, saying, "I don't know about the Supreme Council member, but it's a bit early for the leader."
On the same day, Cho appeared on MBC Radio's Kim Jong-bae's Focus and said, "If it's the party leader, you need to gather some support around you. It's not something that happens just because I want to and raise my hand; it should feel like a nomination." He added, "The contact points, shared memories, and experiences were limited to the narrow space of the emergency committee."
Regarding Lee Jae-myung, who is considered a likely candidate for the party convention, he explained, "We must thoroughly reflect on whether the Democratic Party has properly served and been loyal to the people over the past five years, and there must be fundamental new reforms. For that, new wine must be put into new wineskins, and completely new people must come forward."
About Lee's potential candidacy, he said, "There is still strong pressure on Lee that now is not the time for him to step forward," but added, "Nevertheless, the general consensus is that he will likely push ahead with his candidacy."
