Safety Guardians Naju Volunteer Fire Brigade 'Catching Attention' Touching Residents' Hearts
Jeonnam's First 'Music Volunteer Group' Formed... Music-Integrated Performance Volunteer Service for Firefighting Education
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] The volunteer fire brigade, which plays a vital role as local safety guardians deep in the lives of Naju residents, is also attracting attention by conducting volunteer activities through music for local residents tired of their daily lives.
Naju Fire Station (Chief Park Yongju) announced on the 28th that the Naju Volunteer Fire Brigade operates a music volunteer group.
The volunteer fire brigade music volunteer group was formed in March as the first of its kind in Jeollanam-do, with the members' intention to differentiate from other volunteer groups and serve the local community with a unique and distinctive appearance.
The members consist of volunteer firefighters specialized in fire safety education such as life safety and CPR instructors, and who play instruments like the ocarina, pan flute, and acoustic guitar.
Since their first performance at the ‘Volunteer Fire Brigade Day’ commemorative event on March 19, they have been touring local nursing hospitals, welfare centers, and senior citizen centers, performing shows that combine fire safety education with music.
The members devote themselves to their daily work and volunteer activities in the volunteer fire brigade, gathering at the volunteer fire brigade office to practice and improve their skills whenever possible.
They were also recognized for their potential as a new volunteer group by being selected in the ‘Creating a Safe Village Environment’ category of the 2022 Women-Friendly City Creation Contest hosted by Naju City. The project subsidy of 4 million KRW will be used to supply fire safety equipment for vulnerable households.
Ryu Jeongja, head of the Nam-pyeong-eup Women’s Volunteer Fire Brigade, said, “I would like to thank the members who practiced with bright spirits and the fire station officials who helped us.”
A Naju Fire Station official said, “We hope the small resonance of the volunteer fire brigade music volunteer group will become a great encouragement to citizens tired of their daily lives,” and added, “We will continue to support our volunteer fire brigade to do their best in volunteer activities for local residents and their role as local safety guardians.”
Meanwhile, the volunteer fire brigade supports fire duties during disasters, with a total of 32 teams and about 650 members active only in Naju City.
They recruit members 2 to 3 times a year regularly considering vacancies in the volunteer fire brigade, and excellent members receive benefits such as scholarships and study tours to advanced sites.
