Seoul City University Selected for 2022 Science and Technology Innovation Talent Development Project... Receives 3.6 Billion KRW Research Funding
[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] University of Seoul has been selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT's 2022 Science and Technology Innovation Talent Nurturing Project.
On the 18th, the joint research team led by Professor Park Chang-ee of the Department of Statistics at University of Seoul was selected for the Data Science Convergence Talent Nurturing Project consortium type under the Science and Technology Innovation Talent Nurturing Project with their 'DS Plus Next-Generation Convergence Talent Nurturing Project.' The research team will receive a total research fund of 3.64 billion KRW over four years.
The research topic is 'DS+X Convergence Talent Nurturing.' This requires expertise in various fields such as statistics, computer science, artificial intelligence, and urban science. Accordingly, University of Seoul formed a joint research team consisting of faculty members from the departments of statistics, urban science, artificial intelligence, and computational science. Led by Project Director Park Chang-ee, a total of 25 professors are participating.
In the future, the research team plans to nurture breakthrough innovative talents who can understand data science theory and apply it to various fields to solve problems, especially for students majoring outside of data science. Additionally, students majoring in mathematical sciences and engineering related to data science will be developed into convergence-type innovative talents who can understand major urban issues and develop applicable services in their respective fields.

Professor Park Chang-ee stated, "We aim to develop this project into a leading domestic education program in the field of data science and nurture convergence talents capable of creating data knowledge," adding, "By August, we will develop foundational major courses for both majors and non-majors, and in the second semester, we will begin full-scale data science education."
