[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jung-wan] A survey revealed that 8 out of 9 countries worldwide believe it is better for the United States, rather than China, to hold the leadership in the international community.
On the 16th (local time), the U.S. media Axios reported this, citing a survey conducted by the American political consulting firm Eurasia Group Foundation (EGF).
From April 27 to May 15 last year, EGF surveyed 4,995 adults from Japan, Poland, India, Brazil, Germany, Nigeria, Mexico, Egypt, and China, asking "From your country's perspective, which country do you think should hold hegemony, the United States or China?"
The results showed that 8 countries, excluding China, chose the United States. The biggest reason was that the U.S. is seen as a reliable economic partner. In Japan, 98% of respondents preferred the U.S. Following were Poland (92%), India (88%), Brazil (87%), Germany (84%), and Nigeria (82%), all showing significantly higher preference for the U.S. Mexico (69%) and Egypt (65%) also had a majority preference for the U.S.
However, 93% of Chinese respondents answered that their country should lead the world. Axios reported that 62% of Chinese participants viewed U.S. influence negatively, an increase from only 17% in 2019.

In China, positive and negative responses were evenly split, while in Japan, "neutral" responses were predominant.
