Gyeongnam Office of Education, "Let's Create Special Education Where Everyone Is Happy" ... Establishes 'Five-Year Plan for Special Education Development'
A training session to enhance the capabilities of special education professional staff was held to establish the 6th 5-Year Plan for the Development of Special Education in Gyeongnam.
View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Gyeongnam Office of Education conducted a training program to strengthen the capabilities of education professionals in charge of special education in preparation for establishing the 6th Gyeongnam Special Education Development Five-Year Plan.
According to the provincial Office of Education, 18 participants including supervisors and education researchers took part to establish the Gyeongnam Special Education Development Five-Year Plan to be implemented from 2023 to 2027.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Professor Choi Jinhyuk of Pusan National University, the lead researcher who conducted the foundational study for the Ministry of Education’s 6th Special Education Development Five-Year Plan last year.
In his keynote speech on the future of special education and policy directions, Professor Choi said, “The vision of the 6th Special Education Development Five-Year Plan is a future created together, special education where everyone is happy.”
He added that four major areas and 11 key tasks were set: ▲Advancement of a life-cycle tailored education support system ▲Specialization of special education embracing diversity ▲Realization of fair education for all ▲Promotion of career, high school, and lifelong education preparing for a happy life.
Training participants shared opinions and agreed on the necessity of ▲Stabilizing the service support system related to the plan ▲Expanding special education teachers and support personnel due to the increase in students requiring special education ▲Establishing diverse and specialized special schools ▲Enhancing career and vocational education for students with disabilities and providing barrier-free educational support.

An education office official stated, “We will collect various opinions from plan evaluations, field advisory groups, parents of students with disabilities, teachers, and related organizations involved in special education,” adding, “We will establish a solid 6th Special Education Development Five-Year Plan.”
