White House "Closely Monitoring Possible North Korean Nuclear Test... Will Respond Strongly"
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] As North Korea is believed to have completed preparations for its 7th nuclear test at the Punggye-ri nuclear test site, the United States has issued another warning. It announced a strong response if the nuclear test is carried out and urged the pursuit of diplomatic solutions.
Jake Sullivan, U.S. National Security Advisor, stated at a briefing on the 8th (local time), "We are closely monitoring the possibility of continued nuclear tests," and said the U.S. would take strong action if a nuclear test occurs.
Advisor Sullivan noted that North Korea's repeated provocations have further solidified the strength of the alliance with South Korea and Japan, citing joint exercises conducted with both countries in response to North Korea's missile test launches as an example.
The United States has maintained a strong and clear stance unchanged as well. He emphasized, "This reflects that if North Korea is ready to come to the negotiating table, we are open to diplomatic engagement, along with an absolute and resolute commitment to the defense of South Korea and Japan," adding, "this is the right position and one we will continue to uphold."
