On the 15th, Jin Won-du, Chief Judge of the Criminal Division 1 at Chuncheon District Court, announced that Police Officer A (29), who was tried on charges of assault and violation of the Personal Information Protection Act, was sentenced to a fine of 7 million KRW, and fellow officer B (30) was sentenced to a fine of 5 million KRW for violating the Personal Information Protection Act.
Officer A was prosecuted on charges of assaulting his girlfriend C, who suspected his relationship with a female colleague police officer, in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, on July 16, 2020. The investigation confirmed that Officer A hit C’s forehead, cheek, and head with his palm during an argument.
At the time of the incident, the case was reported to the police via a 112 emergency call. Two days later, Officer A requested fellow officer B, who was working at the police station’s district unit, to send the closure details of the 112 call, and B delivered the case handling form containing C’s personal information without her consent.
After learning of this, C filed a complaint against Officer A, resulting in both A and B being subject to punishment for violating the Personal Information Protection Act.

The court stated, "The nature of the crime is not light for police officers, and the plaintiff did not forgive them."
