COVID-19 Confirmed Cases Recommended to Receive Primary Vaccination 3 Weeks After Confirmation Date and Booster Vaccination 3 Months Later
Health Authorities Set Vaccination Interval for Previously Confirmed COVID-19 Cases
Must Receive Vaccine Later Compared to Existing Vaccination Schedule
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] A separate vaccination interval has been established for individuals previously confirmed with COVID-19.
On the 12th, the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team announced that, considering the natural immunity effect gained from infection amid a recent significant increase in cumulative confirmed cases, they have set intervals between the initial vaccinations (1st and 2nd doses) and additional vaccinations (3rd and 4th doses) from the date of confirmation. Previously, even if infected with COVID-19, individuals could receive initial and additional vaccinations immediately after isolation was lifted and symptoms had recovered.
The initial 1st and 2nd doses are recommended to be administered 3 weeks after the COVID-19 confirmation date, and the 3rd and 4th additional doses are recommended 3 months after confirmation. However, if a person is confirmed positive before their scheduled vaccination, it is recommended to receive the next dose at the later date between the existing vaccination interval and the post-confirmation interval.
For example, if Mr. A received the 1st dose on May 1 and was confirmed positive on May 5, since the 'post-confirmation interval' of 3 weeks (May 26) is earlier than the '2nd dose interval' of 8 weeks, he should receive the 2nd dose after June 26.
Other countries overseas also set separate vaccination intervals for previously confirmed COVID-19 cases. On the 21st of last month, the United States set the interval after infection to 3 months. Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and others have set intervals ranging from 1 to 4 months.

However, the vaccination intervals set this time are recommendations, not mandatory. A representative from the Promotion Team explained, "The post-confirmation vaccination interval is a measure considering effectiveness rather than safety issues, so if individuals wish to be vaccinated before the recommended interval, they can do so as before."
