"Worried About Voice Phishing"… Financial Supervisory Service Personal Information Exposure Registrations Increase by 188%
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] The number of people who registered 'personal information exposure' with the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) due to concerns about financial crimes has nearly doubled.
According to the FSS on the 12th, the number of personal information exposure registrations on the FSS financial consumer portal 'Fine' reached 209,000 last year, an increase of 188% compared to the previous year. Among the reasons for registration, voice phishing accounted for the largest portion with 107,023 cases, making up 51.2% of the total.
The FSS operates the 'Personal Information Exposure Accident Prevention System' to prevent others from conducting financial transactions using leaked personal information. If an ID card is lost or there is concern about personal information exposure, individuals can register on Fine. The FSS connects with all financial companies involved in personal transactions to disseminate exposure information in real time.
When a name registered on Fine is used for loans or account openings, financial companies conduct enhanced identity verification procedures. They additionally verify detailed information such as detailed addresses, account numbers, and payment accounts, and perform identity matching processes to prevent financial fraud crimes.
If the ID card has been reissued or concerns about identity theft are resolved, the individual can freely cancel the registration whenever they wish.
