Kooksoondang Launches U.S. Cult Wine 'Puto' Exclusively in Korea for the First Time
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Kooksoondang announced on the 10th that it will exclusively launch the American cult wine 'Futo' in Korea for the first time.
Futo is a winery established in 2002 by the couple Tom and Kelly Futo, which began producing wine in a small vineyard located in Oakville, Napa Valley, California. At that time, they hired David Abreu, known as the best vineyard manager in California, and Mark Aubert (currently owner of Aubert Wines), who was called the top winemaker, to make the wine. Futo's first vintage, the 2004 vintage, received a score of 99 points from the world-renowned wine critic Robert Parker, earning recognition as a cult wine. Robert Parker commented, "Since its release in 2004, impressive wines have been produced in every vintage."
Later, they purchased a vineyard on the site of a quarry in the Stags Leap region of Napa Valley and began producing additional wines. Currently, they produce a total of three wines: 'Estate Red' made from vineyards in the Oakville region, 'Futo 5500' made from grapes from the Stags Leap region, and 'Futo OV-SL,' a blend of wines from both regions.

A Kooksoondang official said, "Due to Futo wine's excellent quality and extremely limited production, it has been sold worldwide through a reservation-based mailing system. This time, with Kooksoondang exclusively launching it domestically, it can be introduced to Korean consumers without waiting on the mailing list."
