Naver Introduces New Work System Allowing Employees to Choose Their Working Hours and Locations Directly...
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Naver announced on the 4th that it will introduce a new work system called ‘Connected Work’ starting in July. The core idea is that instead of the company deciding the work style such as office attendance or remote work, employees can freely choose their preferred method.
The introduction of this system aims to significantly expand employee autonomy and further strengthen Naver’s work culture based on ‘autonomy,’ ‘responsibility,’ and ‘trust.’
Naver explained, "We designed a work system that allows employees to autonomously choose the way they can work best, focusing on the essence of actual work immersion rather than the form of work, while considering the diversity of individuals and organizations." The new work system is named ‘Connected Work’ to reflect the meaning that ‘Naver’s work’ is carried out in close connection with colleagues, users, SMEs, creators, and business partners.
Employees can autonomously choose their work style once every six months, considering themselves, their organization, and ongoing project situations, between ‘Type O (Office-based Work),’ which is based on attending the office at least three days a week, and ‘Type R (Remote-based Work),’ which is based on remote work. Naver also supports shared seats in the office for those who choose ‘Type R’ so they can work in the office when necessary.
Naver plans to create guidelines for situations where offline face-to-face meetings are essential, such as strengthening teamwork, quick adaptation of new employees, and collaboration.

Choi Soo-yeon, CEO of Naver, said, "Rather than focusing on ‘when’ and ‘where’ we work, Naver has concentrated on the more essential ‘intrinsic value of work,’ creating a culture of trust-based autonomy and achieving the best results. Based on Naver’s unique culture, we have introduced a new work system, and going forward, we will continue to explore various ways to help employees immerse themselves in their work in the optimal environment by focusing on the ‘essence of work.’"
