Hyundai Motor April Sales 300,000 Units... 12% Decrease YoY
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 2nd that it sold 308,788 vehicles domestically and internationally last month. This is an 11.6% decrease compared to the same period last year. This decline is attributed to ongoing supply chain issues with automotive semiconductors and other parts, as well as the impacts of the Russian invasion and China's COVID-19 lockdowns.
According to the sales performance data released by the company for April, 59,415 units were sold domestically, a 15.4% decrease compared to the same period last year. Overseas sales amounted to 249,373 units, down approximately 10.6% year-over-year.
Domestically, sales remained below 60,000 units for four consecutive months. By model, the 1-ton truck Porter was the best-selling with 8,423 units. Among passenger cars, the Avante led with 6,382 units sold. The Grandeur sold 5,192 units, and the Sonata sold 4,165 units. For recreational vehicles (RVs), the Palisade sold 4,461 units, and the Tucson sold 4,175 units. Most models experienced double-digit declines in sales compared to the same period last year.
Demand remains high, but production is unable to keep pace. For the premium Genesis brand, the G80 sold 4,023 units, the GV70 sold 2,100 units, and the GV80 sold 1,753 units. Similarly, except for the new G90 model, all others saw double-digit decreases.
