Dongmyeong University Student to Earn Credits in 'Joseon Ocean Engineering' at Pusan National University Starting Second Semester
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The high barriers between private and national universities are disappearing through academic exchanges and campus sharing.
Dongmyung University recently signed an academic exchange agreement with Pusan National University following the establishment of the Gyeongsang National University Animal Hospital.
On the 12th, Dongmyung University and Pusan National University held an exchange agreement ceremony at Dongmyung University for mutual growth and nurturing future talent.
The agreement focuses on broad exchanges including faculty and research personnel exchanges, industry-academia cooperation and joint research, student exchanges and credit recognition for undergraduate and master's programs, academic information and resource sharing, and joint use of educational and research facilities and equipment.
They agreed to jointly utilize world-class equipment established through Pusan National University's Leading Research Center (ERC) and Global Core Research Center (GCRC), as well as the shipbuilding and marine simulator built at Dongmyung University with support from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, in their curricula.
From next year, students of Dongmyung University's Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, which will be reorganized into the Department of Marine Mobility, will be able to attend lectures and earn credits at Pusan National University's Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering starting from the second semester of the 2022 academic year.
With exchanges in the field of marine engineering between the two universities, it is expected that the latest digitalization technologies and traditional shipbuilding and marine technologies will complement each other.
Students from other departments will also be able to cross-register and earn credits at partner universities under separate agreements.
Additionally, Dongmyung University students who take courses at Pusan National University will have opportunities for mutual cooperation, such as advancing to graduate school at Pusan National University.
It is expected that sharing and collaboration among regional universities will improve the quality of education and contribute to the supply of talent in the region through the cultivation of specialized personnel.
Participation in the University Cooperation-Based Regional Innovation Project also enables joint responses to the crisis faced by regional universities.
Attendees at the agreement ceremony included Pusan National University President Cha Jeong-in, Director of International Affairs Lee Moon-seok, Director of International Cooperation Jeong Bong-gu, and Head of the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering Lee In-won. From Dongmyung University, President Jeon Ho-hwan and professors from the Department of Marine Mobility attended.
