Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education to Replace 100% of School Buses with Eco-Friendly Vehicles
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education will replace all school buses directly operated by kindergartens and schools in the province with 100% eco-friendly vehicles.
According to the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education on the 30th, there are currently a total of 312 directly operated school buses in Jeonnam, and starting with 41 vehicles this year, all will be replaced with eco-friendly vehicles by 2035.
The Office of Education has secured a budget of 5.4 billion KRW this year, and will receive 2.3 billion KRW in national subsidies, including the Ministry of Environment's zero-emission vehicle conversion fund for children's school buses, with the remaining shortfall to be covered by supplementary budgets.
Additionally, last November, they issued an annual plan to replace vehicles that have exceeded their durability period with 100% eco-friendly vehicles and to purchase eco-friendly vehicles for new demand, which was distributed to frontline schools.
In particular, they are promoting a collaborative system in connection with the Korea Environment Corporation to install charging facilities free of charge in idle school spaces, and depending on school conditions, these facilities will be opened for use by local residents as well.
