Gyeonggi-do Conducts Special Crackdown on 'Illegal Activities' in Forests During Spring
4. Unauthorized Harvesting of Wild Plants and Other Activities from April 1 to May 31
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gyeonggi Province will conduct a special crackdown on illegal activities in forest areas from next month 1st until the end of May.
According to the province on the 30th, to prevent and crack down on forest damage and forest fires during the spring season when forest products are produced, a mobile inspection team will be formed jointly with the province, cities, and counties.
The main targets of the crackdown are ▲ harvesting forest products such as wild vegetables and medicinal herbs without the consent of the forest owner ▲ digging or harvesting rare trees and forest products without permission ▲ lighting fires or smoking in the forest ▲ unauthorized entry into restricted forest areas ▲ entering the forest with flammable materials.
According to current laws such as the "Forest Resources Act," if forest products are taken from the forest without the consent of the forest owner, the offender may face imprisonment for up to 5 years or a fine of up to 50 million won.
Under laws such as the "Forest Protection Act," if someone negligently burns another person's or their own forest, endangering the public, they may be sentenced to imprisonment for up to 3 years or fined up to 30 million won.
