The Presidential Transition Committee (Transition Committee) expressed regret on the 27th, stating that the National Election Commission (NEC) refused the Transition Committee's request for a briefing.
On the afternoon of the same day, Lee Yong-ho, secretary of the Political, Judicial, and Administrative Affairs Subcommittee of the Transition Committee, held a briefing at the Transition Committee press conference hall in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, and stated, "The NEC, after a meeting of its commissioners, rejected the Transition Committee's request for a briefing, citing that there is no precedent and that it could cause misunderstandings ahead of the local elections."
Lee emphasized, "During the last presidential election voting process, especially in early voting, there was significant public criticism due to poor preparation. We wanted to gather in one place to share opinions, but the NEC did not respond, which we find very regrettable, disappointing, and unfortunate."
Lee explained that an audit of the NEC will begin after the local elections.
He said, "During the process of receiving a work report from the Board of Audit and Inspection, we asked whether there would be an audit regarding the NEC's extremely poor election preparations. The Board of Audit and Inspection reported to us that the audit would be conducted after the local elections are over," adding, "There will be an overall assessment of the election management system after the elections."
