Kim registered as a preliminary candidate for the People Power Party with the Election Commission on the 11th.
On this day, Candidate Kim stated, "The once bustling downtown area along Route 2 and Indong Market, which used to be packed, has lost its prosperity, and the industrial complex is also becoming vacant," adding, "Gumi is facing a critical crisis of either continuous growth or decline."
He pointed out, "When comparing the budget with Pohang City, which differs by only 100,000 in population, the 150 billion won difference from 10 years ago has widened to 1.5 trillion won in 10 years, equivalent to the entire budget of Gumi City. Over the past 20 years, nearby areas such as Gimcheon and Sangju have continuously expanded infrastructure like railroads and highways, but Gumi has seen little improvement."
He continued, "I have not heard that many large-scale national projects have been attracted to Gumi in the past four years, and rather, it has been frustrating and regrettable to see them taken away by neighboring local governments," promising, "I will carry on the desire for regime change, reclaim the mayoralty of Gumi lost to the Democratic Party, and develop Gumi."
The opening ceremony was attended by various figures including Kim Sang-hoon, National Assembly member for Seo-gu, Hong Seok-jun, National Assembly member for Dalseo-gu Gap, lawyer Seok Dong-hyun, Kim Rak-hwan, president of the Korea Federation of Organizations of the Disabled, Choi Kyung-ho, president of the Gumi Senior Citizens Association, Park Dong-jin, chairman of the Park Chung-hee Presidential Birthplace Preservation Association, former MBC president Kim Jae-chul, former professional boxing champion Hong Soo-hwan, Cheon Ha-jangsa Lee Tae-hyun, and district party chairpersons.
Candidate Kim left public office last year after serving as head of the Special Headquarters for Livelihood Recovery in Gyeongbuk Province. Known as an economic administration expert, he achieved success in attracting companies such as Toray, Toray BSF (ExxonMobil), and Asahi Glass to Gumi 4th Industrial Complex while serving as head of the Investment Attraction Division responsible for corporate attraction in Gyeongnam Province.
