Gwangju Seo-gu '2023 Resident Participation Budget Proposal Project' Contest

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City is conducting a ‘Resident Participatory Budget Proposal Project Contest’ to ensure residents' participation and discover projects that fit the local characteristics to be reflected in the 2023 budget.

According to Seo-gu on the 22nd, the resident participatory budgeting system is a system that enhances the transparency of budget management by allowing residents to participate together in the proposal, review, and selection process during budget formulation.

It also holds great significance in that it can reflect project ideas that residents genuinely want and that are suitable for local characteristics in policies.

The contest application period is until May 31, and the project fields are ▲District Administration Participation Type ▲Local Participation Type ▲Village Planning Type, with a total budget of 2 billion KRW to select resident participatory budget projects.

The target projects are small-scale, one-year projects aimed at improving resident benefits in Seo-gu, and anyone residing in Seo-gu or working at a business located in Seo-gu can apply.

Project applications can be submitted by submitting the proposal application form through the Seo-gu Office District Administration Budget website, email, mail/fax, or by visiting the Seo-gu Office or Dong Administrative Welfare Center.

Seo-gu plans to select the final projects through department review, resident voting, and the Resident Participatory Budget Committee review, and finalize the 2023 resident participatory budget after the council’s budget review.

A Seo-gu official said, “We will actively reflect residents’ opinions and promote a substantial resident participatory budget to achieve true fiscal democracy.”
