[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province announced on the 22nd that it will create school forests at 19 schools in 10 cities and counties, including Gongju, this year.
School forests are projects implemented to utilize unused school grounds to promote students' emotional stability and expand educational spaces.
This year's project sites include 3 schools in Gongju, 3 schools in Yesan, 2 schools in Boryeong, 2 schools in Buyeo, 2 schools in Asan, 2 schools in Nonsan, 2 schools in Dangjin, 1 school in Geumsan, 1 school in Seocheon, and 1 school in Taean.
The province began creating school forests for the first time in 2000 and has completed school forests at a total of 126 schools up to last year.
The established school forests have become green welfare spaces within urban areas used not only by students but also by local residents.
Last year, Anheung Elementary School in Taean County also achieved the distinction of winning the Excellence Award in the creation category of the school forest project hosted by the Korea Forest Service.
