National Library of Korea and Cultural Heritage Administration Sign MOU for Preservation and Joint Use of K-Content
The National Library of Korea (Director Seo Hye-ran on the right in the photo) and the Cultural Heritage Administration (Administrator Kim Hyun-mo) signed a memorandum of understanding on March 4th at 11 a.m. at the National Palace Museum of Korea for the preservation and joint utilization of Korea's national documentary cultural heritage materials through digitization.
View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] On the 4th at 11 a.m., the National Library of Korea signed a business agreement with the Cultural Heritage Administration at the National Palace Museum for the preservation and joint utilization of national documentary cultural heritage and K-content through digitalization.
The main contents of the agreement include ▲ cooperation for the digitalization and joint utilization of national documentary cultural heritage ▲ formation and operation of a consultative body for achieving the purpose of this project and coordination of opinions ▲ joint hosting of workshops and seminars and related information exchange.
To implement the agreement, the National Library of Korea will digitalize old documents requested by the Cultural Heritage Administration starting this year and provide them online through the Korean Old Documents Comprehensive Catalog.
Not only the digitized original texts (images and text) but also related information such as abstracts and tables of contents will be provided together, enabling anyone to easily utilize the Republic of Korea’s national documentary cultural heritage.
Additionally, a consultative body will be formed for the smooth operation of this project, and mutual cooperation will continue, including sharing policies on the digitalization of old document materials. Furthermore, through joint workshops and other events, the capabilities of related personnel will be strengthened and information exchange will be sustained.

Seo Hyeran, Director of the National Library of Korea, stated, “Recently, international interest in K-content has been increasing. Through mutual cooperation with the Cultural Heritage Administration, which is responsible for preserving and disseminating the Republic of Korea’s national documentary heritage, we aim to discover hidden Korean classics and open and service them online.” She added, “Through this, we hope to establish a foundation for domestic and international readers, researchers, and content creators to discover and utilize the charm of Korean classics, thereby serving as an opportunity to rediscover the sustainable value of libraries in the information technology society.”
