View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] SK Telecom announced on the 3rd (local time) that it successfully won an award at the 'Global Mobile Awards 2022 (GLOMO 2022)' hosted by the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) with the visual assistance service ‘Sullivan Plus x NUGU’ presented together with the social venture 'TwoArt'.
The category in which ‘Sullivan Plus x NUGU’ won is the 'Best Use of Mobile for Accessibility & Inclusion,' which targets ESG (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance)-related technologies or services that help socially vulnerable groups based on information and communication technology (ICT).
TwoArt's 'Sullivan Plus' is an application (app) that helps visually impaired and low-vision users recognize people, text, objects, and colors through a smartphone camera. SKT and TwoArt applied the world's first voice artificial intelligence (AI) 'NUGU' to ‘Sullivan Plus’ to enable visually impaired users to more comfortably recognize surrounding objects through voice guidance.
Additionally, since October last year, SKT NUGU FaceScan, a facial recognition AI service, has been applied to increase the recognition rate of mask wearers, helping visually impaired people more easily recognize family, friends, and others around them.
The AI-based service jointly developed by the two companies is expected to play a significant role in assisting visually impaired people in their daily lives at home, mobility, and overall economic activities.
