'Sexual Assault on Severely Disabled Person'... Disability Rights Activist Referred to Prosecution
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jeong-wan, Intern] A disability rights activist in the Busan area has been referred to the prosecution on charges of forcibly molesting a severely disabled woman he knew personally.
The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency's Women and Juvenile Crime Investigation Unit announced on the 24th that they had sent activist A (in his 50s) to the prosecution without detention.
According to the police, A is accused of sexually assaulting B, a woman in her 20s at the time and a level 1 severe brain lesion disabled person, during a disability discrimination protest camp held in Busan for about a month starting in April 2019.
A, who has a son with developmental disabilities, is known to have been leading movements against disability discrimination and nuclear phase-out campaigns.

The female victim has also filed a complaint with the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency against C, the representative of the organization she belongs to, alleging sexual assault and secondary harm.
