[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Seon-gap) will install and operate district administration promotional boards on village buses within the district starting this year.
The "Village Bus District Administration Promotional Boards" are designed to utilize village buses that run throughout the neighborhood to increase accessibility to major projects and actively promote district administration.
To operate the promotional boards, the district signed agreements in January with three village bus advertising companies (Boseong Media, Narae Ad, Ad K).
Through this agreement, the advertising companies allow the district to use a fixed portion of the outdoor advertising space on village buses.
Current advertisements include ▲Free transportation support for children and youth village buses ▲Bicycle group insurance ▲Public delivery app "Gwangjin-gu Ttaenggyeoyo," and the district administration promotional boards are operated on 33 buses across four village bus routes (Gwangjin 01, 03, 04, 05).
Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "By securing the exterior surface of village buses as a promotional space for district administration, we can conduct resident-centered promotions. We expect significant promotional effects as not only residents waiting to board or alight the village buses but also pedestrians and drivers can easily access lifestyle information."
Seodaemun-gu (District Mayor Moon Seok-jin) announced on the 23rd that it will start a mobility support service for transportation-vulnerable groups in the district from April through a business agreement (MOU) with Kakao Mobility (CEO Ryu Geung-seon).
This service is available not only to disabled and elderly residents of Seodaemun-gu but also to temporarily transportation-vulnerable individuals due to injuries. The cost will be set at a level comparable to regular bus fares to avoid financial burden.
The service area covers the entire Seodaemun-gu and neighboring autonomous districts, with applications accepted via phone, text, and online, and real-time updates on reservation status provided.
Kakao Mobility will systematically support the entire project, from securing mobility support vehicles to planning, design, and promotion, to optimize the service for transportation-vulnerable groups.
The service will be operated by the "Seodaemun-gu Regional Care Business Group," a coalition of social economy enterprises and institutions in the local care sector, with the lead organization being Dongnak Social Cooperative. This local network is expected to enhance operational efficiency.
At the agreement ceremony held on the 22nd at the Seodaemun-gu Social Economy Village Autonomy Center (43 Susak-ro) seminar room, Mayor Moon Seok-jin said, "We will continue to cooperate with mobility service specialists and local care networks to realize public values such as improving the quality of life and social participation of transportation-vulnerable groups and alleviating caregivers' burdens."
Jung-gu (District Mayor Seo Yang-ho) announced that starting in March, it will open 100 parking spaces at Dongguk University (President Yoon Sung-i) affiliated parking lot to residents.
Last year, the district conducted a full survey of private affiliated parking lots in the area to identify idle parking spaces and is expanding external openings through agreements with building owners.
This opening of Dongguk University’s affiliated parking lot is the fourth private affiliated parking lot opened to the public this year, following the opening of 100 spaces at Dongdaemun Doosan Tower parking lot, 10 spaces at the Korea Custom Tailors Association, and 5 spaces at Yaksu Station The City officetel parking lot last month.
On the 21st, the district signed a business agreement with Dongguk University to open 100 parking spaces 24 hours a day to residents. The parking fee is 110,000 KRW, with the district subsidizing 70,000 KRW, so residents only pay 40,000 KRW.
Dongguk University borders Jangchung-dong, Pildong, and Dasan-dong. This area is densely populated with multi-family houses and has a severe shortage of parking spaces compared to registered vehicles, leading to frequent neighbor conflicts due to illegal parking reports. Moreover, the area has many steep slopes and is subject to Namsan height restrictions, making it practically difficult to find new sites for public parking lots.
Jung-gu is addressing this chronic urban parking problem by opening idle parking spaces in private affiliated parking lots and through living SOC complex projects. Starting with the opening of 70 spaces at the Dasan-dong Freedom Federation affiliated parking lot in October last year, the district continues to actively identify idle parking spaces in private affiliated parking lots and negotiate for external openings.
Dasan-dong was selected as a target area for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Smart City Solution Expansion Project in March last year and received 1 billion KRW in national funding. Through this, the district plans to build a "Smart Shared Parking Platform" that integrates public parking lots and opened affiliated parking lots and introduce call-based multi-passenger demand-responsive public transportation services. A district official said, "The intention is to reduce dependence on private vehicles by improving public transportation services and walking environments to induce a decrease in registered vehicles," adding, "We are making multifaceted efforts not only to secure parking spaces but also to alleviate parking difficulties."
Residents wishing to use Dongguk University’s affiliated parking lot can submit the affiliated parking lot usage application form posted on the district office website directly to the Jung-gu Parking Management Division or by email by the 28th. Allocation will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
Seo Yang-ho, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, "We expect the opening of Dongguk University’s affiliated parking lot to somewhat alleviate parking difficulties in nearby residential areas," adding, "We will continue to create a safe and pleasant parking environment through expanding shared parking spaces via public-private cooperation and improving parking culture."
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Seon-gap) will support repair costs for minor home repairs for vulnerable single-person households in connection with local hardware stores starting this year.
Old houses often have frequent minor breakdowns causing inconvenience in daily life, but when requesting hardware stores or equipment companies, the service call fee is often higher than the price of parts, which is a burden for vulnerable single-person households.
To alleviate this economic burden and inconvenience, starting this year, the district will pay repair costs on behalf of vulnerable single-person households for simple but difficult-to-repair minor home repairs such as replacing fluorescent lights and faucets, installing safety hooks, and partial home repairs in connection with local hardware stores.
The support targets are low-income single-person households receiving national basic livelihood benefits, lower-income brackets, basic pensions, or disability pensions, and must be single-person households without cohabitants registered in the resident registration; non-residential dwellers such as those in boarding houses are excluded.
The repair cost support is limited to 70,000 KRW per instance and can be applied for twice a year.
Applicants wishing to receive support can visit their local community service center to submit an application form, and for those with mobility difficulties, on-site applications are possible.
The linked hardware stores provide repair services and then submit receipts, delivery notes, and other proof documents to the community service center to receive payment for repair costs.
This project is also expected to help revitalize the local economy by increasing sales for small self-employed hardware stores.
