[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Kim Dong-yeon, the presidential candidate of the New Wave party, announced on the 21st that he held a breakfast meeting with Kim Jong-in, former Emergency Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, and reached a consensus on constitutional amendment and political reform. However, he dismissed the idea by saying, "It does not mean that he intends to participate in the election campaign."
On the same day, Candidate Kim held a press conference in front of the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, to announce his 'Political Reform Pledge,' stating, "I met former Chairman Kim at 8 a.m. today," and added, "(Former Chairman Kim) fully agreed with the constitutional amendment and political reform, and said he would fully support efforts to promote such initiatives."
Regarding his pledges on constitutional amendment and political reform, he said, "If progress is made, he is willing to participate, share the same intentions, support, and play a role in the future promotion process. That was the extent of our conversation."
However, he explained, "It means sharing the same intentions and participating in any way, but it does not mean joining the campaign or participating in any election activities," and added, "If we can fight together on political reform and constitutional amendment issues, we can have dialogue, form alliances, and participate."
Earlier that morning, the two met at a hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, and reportedly held a breakfast meeting for about an hour. Previously, former Chairman Kim positively evaluated Candidate Kim, saying, "He has a very good understanding of the current realities facing our country," and "I told him to prepare to be the economic president three years ago."
Meanwhile, on the same day, Candidate Kim announced his political reform pledge, stating, "No matter who becomes president or which political force comes to power, the mistakes repeated over the past 35 years will be repeated again."
