Yeongsangang Cheong Invests 15.5 Billion KRW in Resident Support Projects for Water Source Management Areas
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office announced on the 21st that it will invest a total of 15.5 billion KRW in resident support project funds to increase the income and improve the welfare of residents in the water source management area.
Of the 15.5 billion KRW resident support project funds this year, 11.6 billion KRW is allocated for general support projects, of which 4.9 billion KRW is for indirect support projects such as increasing residents' income, welfare improvement, education, and pollutant purification projects.
The remaining 6.7 billion KRW will be provided as direct support funds, such as living expenses support for residents in the upper water source area.
In particular, the indirect support funds will actively support the installation of solar power systems in public buildings (such as village halls) and individual village households in accordance with the Ministry of Environment’s ‘Carbon Neutral Implementation Strategy,’ and the direct support funds for living expenses per target household will be paid early in March to April to help local residents overcome COVID-19.
Additionally, the special support project funds total 3.9 billion KRW and will be prioritized for four projects selected as excellent projects through a public contest in September last year, including the Boseong-gun Senior Center Green Remodeling Project and the Hwasun-gun Carbon Neutral Eco-friendly Joint Nursery Installation Project.
The resident support project has been providing financial support since 2003 to residents in the upper water source areas who are regulated due to the designation of water source management areas by creating a water system fund based on the spirit of win-win cooperation, where residents in the upper and lower water source areas share pain and costs, and has supported a total of 252.3 billion KRW until 2021.
