[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A man in his 50s who assaulted his cohabiting girlfriend and tied her hands and feet with a belt, confining her, has been sentenced to prison.
The Ulsan District Court's 11th Criminal Division (Chief Judge Park Hyun-bae) announced on the 20th that it sentenced Mr. A, who was tried on charges of confinement and injury for detaining and assaulting his cohabiting partner, to 1 year and 6 months in prison.
Mr. A was prosecuted for assaulting Ms. B, a woman in her 40s living with him in Ulsan, multiple times on the face during an argument in October last year, and for tying her hands and feet with a belt to confine her.
According to the Ulsan District Court, Mr. A untied the belt after hearing Ms. B's complaints that her blood circulation was cut off, but when she tried to leave the house, he grabbed her hair and threw her to the floor, confining her again. Ms. B sustained injuries requiring two weeks of medical treatment.
At the time of the crime, it is known that Mr. A and Ms. B had argued over his meeting with an acquaintance.

The court stated, "Mr. A has a history of being punished twice for assaulting Ms. B before, and the nature of the crime is serious," adding, "Although the victim does not wish to press charges, the defendant committed the crime again during the probation period, making a severe sentence unavoidable."
