Naver Webtoon Surpasses 82 Million Monthly Users... Strong Impact of 'Jigeum Uri Hakgyoneun'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Naver Webtoon announced on the 16th that its global monthly active users (MAU) surpassed an all-time high of 82 million last month. This marks an increase of 10 million users in just over a year since surpassing 72 million in December 2020.
As the number of global users increased, the paid transaction amount also grew. Following the first breakthrough of 100 billion KRW in monthly transaction volume in August last year, it again exceeded 100 billion KRW last month.
A Naver Webtoon official explained this achievement by saying, "The significant increase in global user inflow is due to the rise in overseas transaction amounts of existing webtoons and the success of intellectual property (IP) adaptations into video content."
In particular, for "Now at Our School," the number of views surged significantly after its release on Netflix, with the original work’s weekly views increasing about 80 times and weekly transaction amount rising 59 times. Especially, the weekly views on the English service platform jumped 21 times.
Popular Naver Webtoons such as "True Beauty" and "The Remarried Empress" recorded overseas transaction amounts in January that exceeded three times their domestic transaction amounts. Additionally, various Korean works like "Mercenary Enrollment," "Like Wind on Dry Branches," and "Raised as a Beast" gained popularity globally, with overseas transaction amounts surpassing domestic levels.
Moreover, "7FATES: CHAKHO," a collaboration with BTS, surpassed 15 million views within two days of its release on the 15th of last month, setting a record as the highest among all Naver Webtoon launches.
The daily active users (DAU) of Naver Webtoon’s English, Japanese, Spanish, French, German, and Thai services also hit record highs, reflecting increased attention from global users.
