Promoting Various Policies to Overcome Low Birthrate, Accelerating Substantial Population Growth
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is implementing various policies to address low birth rates and population decline, including securing funds and establishing investment plans to respond to local extinction.
According to Sancheong-gun on the 15th, it was recently designated as one of the 89 population decline areas announced by the government and will receive support totaling 10 trillion won over 10 years, with 1 trillion won annually.
Sancheong-gun is currently conducting a preliminary planning service to establish an investment plan for the local extinction response fund.
Since November last year, Sancheong-gun has started preparations by receiving policy proposals such as population policy meetings to highly evaluate the response fund.
This year, a service is underway to establish a creative and differentiated plan for detailed analysis of population decline and various specialized supports tailored to the region's characteristics.
Sancheong-gun is accelerating efforts to solve population issues along with this service.
For individuals who have registered their residence in Sancheong since January 2020 and have actually lived there for more than six months, a Sancheong Love Gift Certificate worth 100,000 won is provided; for households with two or more people moving in, 300,000 won worth of Sancheong Love Gift Certificates are given.
For elementary, middle, and high school students, they must have registered their residence in Sancheong with their parents since January 2020 and lived there for more than six months, and if enrolled in elementary, middle, or high schools in Sancheong, they receive an academic encouragement grant of 300,000 won per person.
Among marriage partners aged 19 to 49, if one has had a registered address in Sancheong for more than six months at the time of marriage registration and both spouses register their residence in Sancheong after marriage, 4 million won will be paid over four years.
In addition, efforts to increase the population are ongoing through various policies such as life-cycle tailored welfare policies, support for workers moving in, and incentives for companies and corporations contributing to population growth.
A county official said, “We are focusing on discovering projects to expand infrastructure in various fields such as jobs, economy, education, settlement, medical health, improvement of living conditions, and expansion of the living population,” adding, “We will do our best for actual population increase.”
