Gu Jahong, Founding Chairman of LS Group, Passes Away... Funeral Ceremony Quietly Held with Family Centered
Former LS Group Chairman Koo Ja-yeol and Current Chairman Koo Ja-eun Attend
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hye-young] The funeral service for the late Koo Ja-hong, the founding chairman of LS Group and chairman of LS Nikko Copper Inc., was held on the morning of the 15th.
The funeral service took place at the funeral hall of Seoul Asan Medical Center, where the wake was held, and was conducted simply as a Catholic funeral mass for about an hour starting at 8 a.m., attended by family members and acquaintances.
Attending the funeral service were the deceased’s younger brothers Koo Ja-yeop, chairman of LS Cable & System, and Koo Ja-chul, chairman of Yesco Holdings; cousin Koo Ja-yeol, chairman of the Korea International Trade Association, who inherited the LS Group chairmanship from the deceased; and Koo Ja-eun, the current chairman of LS Group. Also present were Koo Bon-joon, chairman of LX Group, Koo Bon-gul, chairman of LF Group, and Heo Yoon-hong, president of GS Engineering & Construction, among other members of the extended LG family.
Born in 1946 in Jinju, Gyeongnam, the deceased was the eldest son of the late Koo Tae-hoe, honorary chairman and third brother of the late Koo In-hoe, founder of LG Group. He passed away on the 11th due to an illness.
After LS Group separated from LG Group in 2003, he served as the founding chairman of LS Group for nine years from 2004 to 2012. He is credited with leading LS Group to nurture eco-friendly businesses such as smart grids, renewable energy, core electric vehicle components, and overseas resource development as next-generation key industries.
The five-day funeral saw a continuous stream of condolences from members of the extended LG family, including Koo Kwang-mo, chairman of LG Group; Heo Tae-soo, chairman of GS Group; Koo Bon-joon, chairman of LX Group; Koo Bon-neung, chairman of Heesung Group; Koo Ji-eun, vice chairman of Ourhome; and former and current chairmen of LS Group.
In particular, Chairman Koo Kwang-mo, former LS Group chairman Koo Ja-yeol, and current LS Group chairman Koo Ja-eun visited the funeral hall every day for three days from the official start of condolences on the 12th until the day before to pay their respects.

After cremation, the deceased will rest in peace at Gwangju Park Cemetery in Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province.
