On the 9th, Yeongju City conducted special training on the "Serious Accident Punishment Act" for about 140 city employees, including supervisors of each department, facility managers, and supervisors of construction projects over 5 billion KRW, to enhance understanding of the Act and raise awareness of serious accident prevention.
On that day, Kim Seok-gyu, a representative labor attorney from the labor law firm Seyon, an external expert, gave a lecture covering the definition and classification of serious accidents, accident conditions, obligations of employers and management officials, and response measures.
The Serious Accident Punishment Act was enacted to protect citizens and workers from serious accidents. It stipulates punishment for employers and management officials if safety and health obligations are violated at workplaces or public facilities, resulting in casualties.
In preparation for the enforcement of the Serious Accident Punishment Act, the city finalized departmental work plans according to major obligations on the 17th of last month and established a Serious Accident Response Team in the Safety and Disaster Division, the general department, on the 7th.
Jang Wook-hyun, Mayor of Yeongju City, said, "The Serious Accident Punishment Act emphasizes the importance of proactive measures to prevent accidents," adding, "We will do our best to build a safe Yeongju City for our citizens."
