SK Ranks 2nd Among Large Business Groups with Fair Assets Increasing by 31 Trillion to 270 Trillion

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jung] SK's fair assets increased by more than 31 trillion won, rising to 2nd place in the large business group rankings for the first time in history. SK had maintained the 3rd place among large business groups since 2006 but surpassed Hyundai Motor for the first time last year.
On the 9th, CEO Score investigated the rankings of large business groups by summing the fair assets of affiliated companies under the large business groups designated by the Fair Trade Commission as of the 1st of this year (based on last year's third quarter settlement). The total fair assets of large business groups amounted to 2,494 trillion 980 billion won, an increase of 6.8% compared to the previous year.
The company with the largest increase in fair assets was SK Hynix, which rose from 64.071 trillion won last year to 75.0439 trillion won, an increase of 11.3329 trillion won (17.7%). This was due to a significant increase in surplus funds from financing for Intel's NAND business acquisition and performance growth. Following SK Hynix, Samsung Electronics increased by 11.02 trillion won (4.8%).
SK's fair assets as of the third quarter last year were 270.747 trillion won, an increase of 31.217 trillion won (13.0%) from the previous year, marking the first time it ranked 2nd among large business groups. SK's large business group affiliates increased by 28, from 148 to 176.
Hyundai Motor and SK had held the 2nd and 3rd places respectively since 2006, but the rankings changed after 16 years.
Samsung continued its dominance as the top-ranked conglomerate. Samsung's fair assets increased by 10.687 trillion won (2.3%), from 457.305 trillion won to 467.992 trillion won. Samsung's large business group affiliates increased by one, from 59 to 60.

Hyundai Motor ranked 3rd with fair assets of 250.014 trillion won, an increase of 3.93 trillion won (1.6%) compared to the previous year. LG (154.045 trillion won) and Lotte (122.921 trillion won) each recorded fair assets exceeding 100 trillion won, maintaining their 4th and 5th places respectively.
