View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] A conservative civic group claiming that the Japanese military 'comfort women' victimization is false has filed a complaint against Human Rights Commissioner Song Doo-hwan. The reason is that the National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) lost fairness in recommending emergency relief measures regarding the act of occupying the regular Wednesday demonstration site.
According to the civic group Comfort Women Fraud Eradication Solidarity on the 9th, in the afternoon, Kim Byung-heon, director of the National History Textbook Research Institute and representative of the National Action to Abolish the Comfort Women Law, decided to file a complaint against Commissioner Song for abuse of authority and obstruction of the exercise of rights, as well as violation of the Assembly and Demonstration Act. The Comfort Women Fraud Eradication Solidarity consists of eight conservative groups including the Anti-Japan Statue Truth Investigation Committee, Mom Corps, and National Action to Abolish the Comfort Women Law.
Representative Kim stated, “The NHRCK recommended active intervention by public authority against groups disrupting the Wednesday demonstrations, such as advising the Jongno Police Chief to change the time and place of the assembly,” adding, “This is a biased decision to protect the Wednesday demonstrations of the Justice and Memory Foundation (Jeonguiyeon).”
Earlier, on the 17th of last month, the NHRCK recommended emergency relief measures, stating the need for such measures due to the police’s lukewarm attitude and response to disruptions of the Wednesday demonstrations. This was because defamation and insults against participants of the Wednesday demonstrations were occurring due to opposing rallies. On the 20th of last month, the NHRCK also sent an official letter requesting a meeting with the Jongno Police Chief and the Commissioner of the National Police Agency, stating that the police response had not changed during the 1527th Wednesday demonstration held after the recommendation.

The occupation of the demonstration site by groups claiming the comfort women issue is false began in May 2020 after allegations of embezzlement of donations by independent lawmaker Yoon Mi-hyang surfaced. These groups have been demanding the removal of the Statue of Peace and other actions.
